Texel is a division of ADS, located in Saint-Elzéar
in the Beauce region. It is a manufacturing
company specializing in the making of needle-punched
nonwoven fabrics for technical applications.
Founded in 1967 by the Groupe Chassé of
Sainte-Marie, Beauce, Texel debuted with
the making of bed coverings. In 1969, the
company applied their existing manufacturing
processes to manufacture nonwoven felt for
the footwear and clothing industries.
In
1975, Texel ventured into yet another territory
and became the first Canadian manufacturer
of geotextiles.
In the 1980's, Texel grew
to develop new product lines: nonwoven filters
and agrotextiles.
Over the years, the company
developed many of its products by working
closely with its
major clients. What makes Texel unique, therefore,
is not only its ability to adapt production
to the specific requirements of its clients,
but also its skillfulness at making products
that meet the ever-changing market needs.
ADS
acquired the company in 1987. Today, Texel
employs 211 people and is a division
of ADS.
Through its exclusive Texel division,
ADS has become one of the major manufacturers
of needle-punched nonwoven products in Canada.
Having focused marketing efforts primarily
within North America and Europe, ADS is looking
to expand onto other international markets.
ADS also includes a number of other companies,
which have joined the group over the years.
In 1993, together with Somax International
inc., ADS created a company to distribute
geotextiles under the tradename Solmax-Texel
Géosynthétiques inc. ADS holds
a 50% interest in this joint venture.
Launched
in 1991, Texel Géomembranes
inc. was dedicated to the installation of
geomembranes. In 1998, this company underwent
a major transformation when it was acquired
by Solmax-Texel Géosynthétiques
inc. and has since specialized in the distribution
of geotextiles and the installation of impermeable
membranes.
Texel USA Inc. was founded in
1995 with its head office located in Henderson,
North Carolina.
Like Texel, Texel USA Inc. was a company
specialized in the making of needle-punched
nonwovens for technical applications. 2001,
following a reorganization of its manufacturing
activity, Texel USA Inc. shut down its factory
operations and moved all of its production
and finishing equipment to Saint-Elzéar.
In 2001, Texel acquired a new warehouse
in Sainte-Marie in the Beauce, and then in
2003,
the warehouse was expanded to accommodate
a new production line at the same factory.
