Roadway rehabilitation of Chemin de la Montagne using TEXDRAIN 80V

Project

The Chemin de la Montagne rehabilitation project in Mount Saint-Hilaire primarily involves rehabilitating and widening the roadway to accommodate the development of dedicated cycling lanes.

Challenge

The geotechnical study conducted by the soil laboratory confirmed the advanced state of deterioration of the roadway and demonstrated the need to implement a permanent and efficient drainage system. A high groundwater table, silty soil conditions, and water runoff from adjacent slopes and surrounding lands played a major role in the degradation of the roadway.

Selected design concept

To optimize the drainage system, the designers selected a TEXDRAIN 80V edge drain, a flexible geosynthetic drainage system applied vertically along the roadway shoulder. TEXDRAIN 80V, with a filtration component tailored to the existing silty soil conditions, allows for the interception and evacuation of water originating from adjacent slopes.

Benefits

When used as an edge drain, TEXDRAIN 80V provides hydraulic isolation and helps maintain a stable moisture content within the pavement structure, thereby ensuring effective protection against water infiltration.

  • Drainage, filtration, separation, and efficient water conveyance combined in a single product;
  • High drainage capacity under high compressive loads;
  • Large contact surface with the soil, promoting efficient water capture;
  • Permeability of the drainage core 1,000 to 10,000 times greater than that of the in-situ soil;
  • Performance improvement of up to 45% during the frost-free period (25% on an annual basis);
  • Lower cost compared to traditional drainage systems.
